I first saw Darren's advert in the local paper about 2 years ago, gave him a call and the next thing I knew, I was booked for my first session - no excusses accepted! Well, time has moved on since that first session - I enjoy my sessions with Darren no matter how I feel before hand. What I like most about Darren is the personal touch he gives to his clients - be it a phone call a day later too see how I pulled up or a follow up call the day before my next session to see what I have been doing exercise wise. Darren prepares my sessions to suit what I have or in most cases, not done, since my last session. I am lifting more weight that I ever did during my 7 years with my previous training and my cardio fitness has improved considerably. I have no problems walking the 2.2km to his studio on a Saturday and then completing the 50min training session. The best thing about Darren's training style is "there are no excuses" he just doesn't accept them. Judith
I started training with Darren (Life PT) mid 2009 with my goal of being fit enough to complete a hike in Peru in October. Darren as a PT, listened to my needs and planned our training sessions to achieve this goal. The hike was for 4 days covering 44km of mountain passess all at elevated altitude. With this in mind, he set Cardio session to help my endurance and strength to get my muscles strong enough to keep me going. Because of the high altitude, we worked on exercises where my breathing was targeted. Any time I lost sight of the goal, he always reminded me what it was all about. I completed the hike with no major problems which was an amazing achievement for me. I must say I did think of him along the way and I was greatful for all of the lunges and squats he had made me do. On the third day of the hike we went 17km nearly all of which was down stairs. Thanks to his training techniques, I was almost running. After the hike, I never had a doubt in my mind that I would continue training with Darren as my PT. The sessions are targeted to your goals and are heaps of fun as he is very easy to get along with. I may feel like crap when I get there but I always leave happy.
During the 15 years as a regular gym member I was always barely reaching my goals and never improved beyond a certain level. I was starting to lose motivation and after all this time, looking for excuses to miss my gym days. I was begining that "slippery slide" we all know! Then I found LIFE and Darren who showed me the missing link! With Darren's commitment and dedication to my goals, I am now, after only 10 months, where I always wanted to be. On Darren's business card there is this question: " Can 1 hour a week change you life? " Well I can say yes to that. 8 months ago I was looking at myself, my non existent fitness and thinking I have got to do something! My weight had climbed to 104Kg, my knees where hurting and I was on two lots of blood medication...and only 51 years old!!.
I have always taken pride in my fitness which was suddenly gone. Really, I had no excuse as I have a fully equiped gym in my shed that was gathering dust. How could I get motivated again? I grabbed the phonebook and found Darren's number. He came for a visit and a talk about possibilities. The good thing about Darren is that he designs the training to suit the individual. What I wanted was a one one one session with Darren, once a week and then to use my own gym the rest of the week, and this has been successful. I have just signed a second contract with Darren as I realise I am on the right track. Looking after myself is the number one priority, or else I wont be able to look out for anybody else.
In the time I have trained with Darren, I have lost 17kgs, my doctor has taken me off the blood pressure medication, my energy levels are 100% increased and I am using all of my gym equipment again and have added to it since, with advice from Darren, and I intend to keep my new lifestyle.

The word limit never seems endless when training with Darren; the challenges are endless but not impossible. 9 weeks into training and more then half my goals are achieved. The sense of hard work and satisfaction come to attention in every session. I'm stronger within myself, fitter, more motivated and my attitude towards myself is most important to me. I can actually say while smiling, I now enjoy exercise and look forward to Darren's group sessions. I train with Darren a few times a week. He has personalised and continues to adapt a training program to suit me. I was keen to "beef up" a little as I am 6' 5" tall and only weighed 90Kg. I found playing rugby was causing me too many injuries and I have always had trouble building muscle. 5 months on, I weigh 103Kg and can bench 110Kg. I have more muscle definition in my legs and upper body, I am generally stronger, fitter and my recovery from footy is much faster. Darren Briggs has been my personal trainer since October 2008. Darren asked me what I wanted to achieve right from the start - better muscle tone, skinny thighs, more strength, better physical fitness and a flat stomach! I have successfully dropped from a size 12-14 to a size 10 (that's over 3cm) and I am loving the way I look. I can now fit pants I have not worn for over 6 years. The physical changes have been terrific but the change in my attitude towards myself has been even more important to me. I'm happier with the way I look and feel and I'm more confidant in my ability to take on a challenge and achieve success. I am stronger, fitter, more flexible, more in control of my unhealthy eating habits and more energetic and more motivated. I have been training with Darren for 40 weeks now and in this time I have realised that I can not set goals to achieve, I can actually achieve them! Since beginning my training session (going on 7 months now) I have seen dramatic changes in myself. These changes are not just physical, but my overall attitude towards everyday life. I now find that I am a lot happier and positive: have more energy and feel less tired and exhausted after a days work. My whole attitude towards any form of exercise before was "I can't be bothered" or " I'll do it later". But now, I actually look forward to my sessions with Darren, and give it a go. I am not saying it has been easy, but with the motivation and drive, which Darren gives me, it has gotten me a great deal closer to the goal I want to accomplish! Having been a walker for many years combined with an exercise routine, I found I needed something extra to help tone the body especially the stomach and hip areas. Darren's personal training interested me as I wasn't a gym person, so I gave it a go, 24 months later; Darren has taught me simple exercises which are getting good results. He is a great motivator, yet know when you've reached your limit. He is very aware not to aggravate any injury no matter how small and works around the problem area. He keeps the session interesting with lots of variety, is very professional and sets a class style that is encouraging and enjoyable through the pain (no pain no gain). I like the discipline of regular training sessions with Darren. I make all sorts of excuses not to exercise when I am on my own. I feel guilty making up a pathetic excuse to Darren, so I just do the exercise and I always feel better for doing it. I have performed physical feats that I never imagined I would! Boxing is something completely out of my normal personality or experience and I love it! I feel so much stronger and I think I would be able to defend myself better if I was accosted ...heaven forbid! Darren listens to what you want - not what he thinks you want.
